Mark Holyoake

Originally from Wellington, Mark has been a gymnast since he was 6 years old. He represented New Zealand in Gymnastics at the Commonwealth Games in both 2006 and 2010, and has coached for the New Zealand Gymnastics team at World Cup events. His knowledge and experience in gymnastics has helped him adapt his coaching to the movements found within Crossfit and he has been coaching athletes since 2014. Mark has been a Crossfitter himself since 2014 and has been to the Crossfit Pacific regionals twice as part of the teams competition.

Mark is passionate about quality of movement and ensuring clients and members are aware of how and why their bodies move the way they do, as this impacts not only physical workout performance but day to day quality of life. Achieving great health through movement is a key concept for Mark, and this is what motivates him to ensure everyone is able to reach their goals.

Adrien Rodriguez

Assistant Head Coach

Qualifications

  • BPJEPS AGFF Certificate

Originally from France, Adrien has been a keen sportsman since his youth. He studied in France at schools in both Agen and Toulouse and after leaving school studied to become a dental prosthetist. Although becoming certified in this, he found a greater passion for personal training and studied at CREPS in Toulouse. Adrien has played many sports but his primary sport has been rugby which he has played for the last 14 years.

Adrien fell in love in with CrossFit after he stopped playing rugby and was head coach at CrossFit Muret before travelling to NZ. He is passionate about helping people evolve in their CrossFit training. Adrien has a goal for himself to one day compete at the CrossFit Games.

Mellissa Teh

Owner & General Manager

Qualifications

Mel is a therapeutically qualified optometrist and has been practicing since 2008. She had the privilege of working with renowned ophthalmologist Dr Dean Corbett before stopping to focus on juggling motherhood and managing the gym.

She has been in the fitness industry since 2007 as a group fitness instructor for Les Mills, teaching BodyCombat, CXWORX and GRIT. She was also part of the presenting team for BodyCombat 58 and has been a national assessor certifying other instructors in New Zealand. In 2016 Mel was invited into the Nike Trainer team for the Pacific region.

Mel was a presenter on the post-partum Les Mills series, an on-demand TV series designed to help new mums get moving in the early stages after having their babies.

Mel has been an avid Crossfitter since 2013 and has been coaching Crossfit for the last few years. She is passionate about health and fitness, and how her example as a mum will impact the following generations.

Mark and Mel have two amazing daughters together - Rylee and Ruby.

 

Seamus O’Loan

Qualifications

Seamus has be en involved in CrossFit since 2014. He initially was introduced to it as a form of training to prepare him for a particular position in the New Zealand Police, and as extra training outside of Auckland Club Rugby, however CrossFit it re-ignited his love of fitness and personal training, which he studied in Hamilton in the early 2000's.

On completing his CrossFit Level 1 certification, Seamus has been passionate to further his own CrossFit skill set. He has been mentored by some great coaches, including Mark Holyoake, passing on this knowledge and advice to our members within his own coaching. Seamus loves to bring a fun relaxed environment to all of his classes.

Maddy Barbarich

Maddy has always had a passion for sports, focusing on mainly equestrian through her youth and playing premier level hockey. This led her to study exercise science in a pursuit of understanding how the body moves and adapts. It wasn’t until 2018 that she discovered CrossFit but she has never looked back.

Maddy also began working as a personal trainer before making the switch to CrossFit coaching in 2020. Whilst she is fascinated by the theoretical side of movement, she found her true passion working with the community to put theory into practice.

Now practising as a physiotherapist as a part of the Physio Impact team, she aims to combine this with her coaching to help people understand how to move optimally for performance, injury prevention, quality of life, and enjoyment.

Fritha Hanning

Fritha has always loved sport and exercise, originally considering a degree in Physical Education before switching at the last minute to medicine. She did manage to sneak in a paper on exercise prescription from Otago into her medical degree.
During her medical training she taught aerobics including BodyAttack, Circuit, BodyPump & BodyStep and competed in sport aerobics. She also worked as a gym instructor for the university gym.


Fritha switched to CrossFit from aerobics in 2013 and her passion for CrossFit has not wavered in 10 years. In her work as a cancer specialist and as the Director of Te Pūriri o Te Ora (cancer and blood services for the Northern region) she sees the importance and benefits of a healthy lifestyle and exercise for everyone including those recovering from illness. Supporting people with their crossfit and exercise goals is a natural extension of that.

Outside of the gym and work Fritha has three children and a healthy rivalry with her husband Peter in their CrossFit progress and performance.

 

Bailey Morrison

  • Currently completing Bachelor of Science majoring in Exercise Science & Physiology at University of Auckland

Bailey began her CrossFit journey a few years ago as a way to support her competitive rowing training. She fell in love with CrossFit and has dedicated her training to this as her main sport for the last two and a half years.

Bailey has been a member of CMC since March 2022. She has loved being a part of the community as a member and now as a coach.

 

Andrew Rodgers - Weightlifting Coach

Andy started weightlifting at the age of 15 when he was in high school, and within a year he was representing New Zealand. He has been an NZ representative multiple times, and an NZ National Champ. He went on to complete a degree in coaching with a focus on weightlifting and how to transfer those skills into CrossFit.

Andy owned and operated Southern Latitude for 7 years before heading into the corporate world. He has since returned to the fitness industry and manages Lagoon Pools and Stadium.

Charlie Connell - HYROX head coach

Charlie’s journey into exercise science began with a passion for soccer and cycling, which sparked an early interest in endurance training and performance. This eventually led to a PhD and a career as an exercise scientist.

Her work focuses on how the brain and body adapt to stressors such as exercise fatigue, heat, hypoxia, and pollutants, with a particular emphasis on using nutritional interventions—like caffeine, creatine, carbohydrate supplementation, dietary nitrates etc.—to optimise performance.

In 2019, Charlie discovered CrossFit and developed an interest in Olympic weightlifting, which she continues to refine. She combines her academic expertise with practical experience to help others push their limits and achieve their goals in the gym. Currently, her focus is on providing CMC members with the best preparation possible for the demands of Hyrox racing!

 

Tai Correa - Personal Trainer

Originally from Brazil, Tai has been living in New Zealand since 2012. She has spent the last 12 years as a professional dancer, an experience that gave her deep body awareness, discipline and a lifelong love for movement.

As well as working as a PT, Tai also coaches young tennis athletes at Lavie Tennis Academy, helping them become stronger, faster and more athletic on and off the court.

Tai has a no-nonsense approach to training - she is all about real progress, smart programming, consistency and commitment. She is interested in what works best for you and what will provide the best results. Tai loves helping others find that fire within themselves.

 

Vic Stratton - HYROX & Run Club coach

Vic grew up playing a wide range of sports including hockey, tennis, touch rugby and cross-country. In her late teens, hockey became her main focus and eventually led to a hockey scholarship at the University of Louisville in Kentucky, where she also completed her degrees. Vic also coached hockey at high school and college levels.

After 10 years away she returned to NZ and completed her Diploma in Secondary Teaching and began her career as a health and PE teacher.

Alongside teaching, Vic is both a CrossFitter and now also a HYROX athlete. She loves the physical and mental challenge of HYROX and believes it is a sport anyone can do. She is passionate about helping people move well, feel strong and enjoy the journey.
